woah!! is that little guy as a gundam? and who is he fighting? why is he holding a spoon ^0^ .𖥔 ݁ ˖🍮 “Little Guy Gundam” by Bug will be featured in iSSUE03 of JELLi (ﾉ´ヮ´)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧ 🗯️”I was inspired to draw this piece for Issue 03 of JELLi because I am aesthetically drawn to the design of Gunpla kits, from the art featured on the boxes to the packaging of the unassembled pieces. I’ve been collecting and building Gunpla kits for a few years (I have a small backlog I’m slowly getting through >_<) and I really enjoy the process of putting them together, although it can be a bit frustrating at times. It was really fun to imagine our beloved Little Guy in the image of a mech and finding ways to incorporate some JELLi related motifs as well as elements of my personal style.” - @ceramicbabydeer, artist

𝄞⨾𓍢ִ໋ ⋆˙⟡🗝️🕯️”Living Dolls” by creative director Jade Sumulong and photographer Justin Lecuna celebrates trans women across socal and our JELLi community 🗯️”considering the current political climate, i knew that representation was more important than ever. because i am a cis woman, i wanted to focus on featuring trans women rather than their experiences with gender identity. it was important to further address gender identity, so i asked a couple of models featured in the shoot briefly talk about their experiences in the page following “Living Dolls”. i wanted the spreads to feel dreamy but dramatic. something drew me into the steampunk esque fashion. i wanted the models to look like actual dolls, with ARTiCULATED joints & wind up mechanisms. it was also important to me to cast models of different backgrounds. towards the end of shooting, i was crying seeing how beautiful the models looked & watching them build connections with one another. this piece meant so much to me, and i am so thankful for the team that perfectly helped my vision come to life!!” - @inherownwurld ₍ᐢ. .ᐢ₎ ₊˚⊹♡ 🗯️“I had such a great time being part of this shoot. ₊‧ 𖧧⋆✴︎˚｡⋆🐛🕸️ like a gentle melody, Ili Maristela‘s art piece in iSSUE03 “Natures Dolls” explores our connection with the misunderstood yet enchanting small creatures we share the earth with, reminding us to find beauty in what society may deem unsightly. 🗯️ “growing up, bugs were my dolls. i was fascinated with the way their bodies moved, how their wings were painted, how something so small could feel so intricate and delicate even when people saw them as unsettling or odd. i never really cared for plastic dolls as a kid. instead, i played with butterflies, caterpillars, moths. these bugs felt like nature’s own articulated toys. i would sit in the grass or go on my “nature walks” and watch them for what felt like forever, sometimes gently catching them, sometimes even raising them. they were soft and misunderstood and a little eerie to some, but to me they were beautiful. the girl resting in the garden is that younger version of myself. she’s lying in a mossy bed of leaves and flowers, completely at ease. insects wander across her arms and legs, like she belongs to them as much as they belong to her. this is about quiet companionship and a different kind of girlhood. one rooted in curiosity, oddities, and softness in quiet places. about being surrounded by what others see as strange and feeling completely at home. this feeling was built through the beauty of misunderstood creatures. “ - @jellllyfiiiiiish ♡ ˖°.⋆𖦹°‧

he gets it, 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵? the internet can almost unanimously agree that this non-assuming, enlightened man is actually quite off-putting, but what exactly makes him feel off? the Performative Man is the latest archetype of man that quickly rose to internet infamy, sparking endless TikTok videos poking fun at the matcha/Labubu/Clairo lover as well as various online discussions about what its function is within today's cultural landscape. JELLi joins this discussion dissecting our unfavorable attitudes towards the archetype and how the sensationalization of the Performative Man ultimately reinforces gender stereotypes. 🗯️ "Issue 03 was an interesting issue because it was the first issue that pushed past the typical creative boundaries that we’ve set up for JELLi.
